Why I Wrote This Ode to My Gray Hair
Hey, friends! Today, I’m sharing something simple but meaningful to me. Below is an ode I wrote to my gray hair five years ago during a writing challenge. At the time I was not feeling very good about myself, and I wanted to send a little love to the part of me that was frustrating; my gray (frizzy) hair. I decided that sending love to my hair was in order. I’ve made peace with the color(s) I grow and the frizz, too.
If you’re not having a good moment right now, I’m sending some love to you!
Here is a tiny suggestion I used to help me love my hair more. Find something about yourself that you like. It could be your gray hair, your smile (I love your smile), or even your little toe on your left foot. 😊Write a small ode to that one thing. Using a few kind words about yourself will shift how you feel.
Let’s embrace our gray hair and how fabulous we are. And if you’re a beautiful lady who covers up gray hair, I love you, too! There is no judgement here. Represent yourself in the best way you can! And please share your thoughts in the comments below.

My Poem: Sending Love to Gray Hair
Yes, I knew you were on your way.
You sent warning shots when I was seventeen.
I didn’t know that at some point in my life
I would embrace you with love and joy.
Having you makes me feel
womanly, beautiful, energized, and true to myself
You free me.
There are days when you express yourself artistically
and make me not thrilled with you.
Those are the days I learn about inner strength
and my personal beauty.
You are teaching me to love myself
and I’m grateful
I’m not ashamed you’re in my life
the way women before me were.
They didn’t see the beauty you bring.
I won’t hide you as I once did, I promise.
When I learned to love, like, and live with you
I saw that you like me, too.
Would I change anything about you?
No, yes, I don’t know.
No, no, and no!
You keep me guessing about you daily.
There is never a dull moment with you.
I love that you’re in my life!
Finally
I’m not a poet, but this ode to my gray hair makes me smile. Not everyone embraces their losing their natural born hair color, it can be frustrating, beautiful, and surprising. Sometimes it’s all in the same day. 😊
